Scholarships for Future Leaders in Social Work

1. Caroline T. Mudd Alumni Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is for BSW or MSW students in the School of Social Work at WVU.

2. Social Work General Scholarship Fund

A general scholarship fund for undergraduate and graduate social work students at WVU.

3. Dr. Eleanor Blakely "Pay It Forward" Scholarship

WVU's School of Social Work offers the Dr. Eleanor Blakely "Pay It Forward" Scholarship to graduate students who demonstrate good academic standing and exhibit characteristics similar to Dr. Blakely, such as leadership, academic enthusiasm, and pride in the social work field.

4. The Barrett Community Development Scholarship

This WVU scholarship recognizes high-standing social work students whose work emphasizes community development and organization. Preference is given to students who plan to remain in the state of West Virginia for their professional careers.

5. Senior Wisdom Video Scholarship

Sponsored by A Place for Mom, this opportunity is open to medical and social work students who are pursuing a career that involves working with senior citizens. Applicants must provide a 2-3 minute video that demonstrates the value of seniors and how they benefit society.

6. The Melanie Foundation Scholarship 

The Melanie Foundation Scholarship was created to honor the life and work of Melanie Merola O'Donnell, who focused her career on relieving the suffering caused by mental illness. Students with a history in social work-related volunteer work are asked to submit an essay of how these experiences shaped their lives and mirror the values of Melanie Merola O'Donnell.

7. Davis Putter Scholarship Fund

If you're interested in a career in social and/or economic justice, consider applying for this scholarship. Grants are given to students who are active in the struggle against different forms of oppression and who demonstrate a desire for global solidarity.

8. The American Society on Aging Research Award

The ASA offers a research award to the best unpublished graduate research paper on a project that is relevant to aging and applicable to the practice. Recipients of this award will have the opportunity to present their paper during the annual Aging in America Conference, as well as a complimentary one-year ASA student membership.

9. Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship

Graduate students with a desire to work with, or have a special affinity with, American Indian, Alaska Native, and/or Hispanic/Latino populations are eligible for the Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship. Students should also be members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for consideration.
