Scholarships for Public Health Students

We understand that going back to school can sometimes get expensive. With tuition, textbooks, and commuting costs, it all adds up.

As a driven student pursuing a graduate degree in public health who is determined to impact positive change in the world, you deserve some help in financing graduate school. Here are a few scholarships available to students just like you!

1. Avashia Scholarship

The Avashia Scholarship is for full-time students enrolled in in the School of Public Health at WVU. These $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to meritorious students who demonstrate commitment to the values and activities of the School of Public Health and have demonstrated financial need. To qualify, applicants must have completed a minimum of their first semester of graduate courses, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and submit a letter of application. Applications with a filled out FAFSA must be submitted by March 1st to be considered.

2. Robert W. Gunn Book Scholarship

West Virginia University awards the Robert W. Gunn Book Scholarship for students in the Public Health Program to provide funds for the purchase of textbooks. This is not a one-time scholarship, so a student who is a recipient one year is eligible for consideration in any other year. The SPH Scholarship and Awards Committee will determine the scholarship recipients. The deadline for this scholarship is March 1st, and the FAFSA must be filed to be considered.

3. William M. Murray Public Health Education Scholarship

If you are a West Virginia resident and enrolled in West Virginia University’s Master of Public Health program, you should apply for the William M. Murray Public Health Education Scholarship! This scholarship will provide graduate scholarships for West Virginia resident students enrolled at WVU in the Master of Public Health program. To receive this scholarship, applicants must be in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA). Students who receive this scholarship in previous years are encouraged to apply again as long as they meet the selection criteria. Apply before March 1st with a filed FAFSA!

4. Corey L. Richards Memorial Scholarship

Named in honor of Cory L. Richards, a leading figure in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights whose remarkable career at the Guttmacher Institute spanned nearly four decades, the Cory L. Richards Memorial Scholarship awards one scholar a one-time scholarship of $15,000. Applicants must be full-time graduate students at an accredited institution in the United States. 5. NEHA/AAS Scholarship

Both the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and the American Academy of Sanitarians (AAS) have established education in Environmental Health (EH) as one of their principal goals. For that reason, they have established one graduate scholarship worth $2,500 to a single student interested in making positive contributions to the future of Environmental Health. The graduate scholarship is to be used toward tuition and fees associated with graduate studies. All applicants must have at least one semester remaining to be eligible for this scholarship. The deadline is March 1st, so don’t delay starting your application.

With these all scholarships in mind, financing graduate school shouldn't be so daunting!
