A Master of Social Work program prepares compassionate people for careers that matter, and an MSW program is also available to students without a related bachelor's. Through WVU’s prestigious curriculum, students who are changing careers or changing fields of study are prepared to succeed in purpose-driven careers.
If you want to make a difference, you don’t need to have an undergraduate degree in social work to be admitted to WVU’s MSW graduate program, making social work a graduate degree for those looking to make a career change.
Choosing to Earn an MSW:
A master’s degree gives social workers a leg-up on other competitors who have only a bachelor's degree because certain jobs are only offered to those with a master's degree.
Social work is a valuable profession with broad opportunities to serve local, national, and international populations. West Virginia University's curriculum prepares students to integrate micro and macro practice skills across service sectors and within interdisciplinary teams to effectively address social and human problems across a wide range of practice areas, with a particular emphasis on effective models of rural service delivery.
Earn Your MSW Online:
Are you looking for a flexible graduate program option? Are you thinking about pursuing graduate school online? WVU's School of Social Work has launched a fully online asynchronous MSW program, starting in the fall of 2019. This program is specially designed for students who require or desire more flexibility. This is offered as an replacement for our extended campus programs, which are phasing out as of Spring 2019. Students in the online program will pay in-state tuition, regardless of their current state residency.
This program is offered as a part-time option with fall admission only. All students will follow the same degree plans as the part-time on-campus program under the Advanced Integrated Practice curriculum. Advanced Standing students will complete the degree in two years and Regular Standing students will complete the program in three years.
