The Sport Management graduate program, offered by West Virginia University's College of Applied Human Sciences, is designed to advance the careers of established sport professionals while helping those individuals wanting to gain entry into this highly sought-after field.

You can start our Sport Management program whenever is most convenient to you.

Options for WVU's Sport Management program and its two focus areas allow students to start any semester – fall, spring, summer.

Requirements for our program include desiring a career in the sport industry, having an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, and having a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75. The online program consists of 10 total courses and students can complete their degree in less than 2 years.

WVU offers a low-residency approach to our Sport Management degree.

If going to graduate school online sounds like a good fit for you but you’d still like some in-person guidance, there is a low-residency program offered to students.

Our low-residency program is 90 percent online and 10 percent on campus. During their time on campus, students will have the opportunity to network and interact with their cohort and faculty. This on-site portion of residency will be completed during the first two weeks of the first semester.

Please note that this low-residency option is only offered in the summer.

Students who would like to follow this path may enter Comprehensive Sport Industry Management. To enhance their careers, students must expand their skill sets to include event management, administration and governance, staffing, marketing, and resource development. This program, also consisting of 10 total courses, can be completed within a projected fifteen months.

Sport Management courses are taught by experts in the field.

Our Sport Management master’s program is taught by professors who have real-life experience in a sport-related profession. The professors' backgrounds range from planning and hosting events (such as NCAA and TAAC championships) to being the co-editor of three books on international sport management.

Enrolling in the Sport Management program does not require you to have a related bachelor's degree.

While you were in undergrad, did you just know that you wanted to pursue a career in psychology or criminal justice? And then, upon graduation, did you realize that you'd rather pursue a graduate degree in a different field?

If this sounds like you and if you're interested in Sport Management, you're in luck! WVU's Sport Management graduate program does not require applicants to obtain a related bachelor's degree.

Students who receive their M.S. in Sport Management from WVU have gone on to pursue the following careers:

  • University Athletic Director

  • Athletic Trainer

  • Sport Agent

  • Academic Compliance Officer

  • Sport Facility Manager
