WVU's School of Social Work offers the Dr. Eleanor Blakely "Pay It Forward" Scholarship to graduate students who demonstrate good academic standing and exhibit characteristics similar to Dr. Blakely, such as leadership, academic enthusiasm, and pride in the social work field.
This WVU scholarship recognizes high-standing social work students whose work emphasizes community development and organization. Preference is given to students who plan to remain in the state of West Virginia for their professional careers.
Sponsored by A Place for Mom, this opportunity is open to medical and social work students who are pursuing a career that involves working with senior citizens. Applicants must provide a 2-3 minute video that demonstrates the value of seniors and how they benefit society.
The Melanie Foundation Scholarship was created to honor the life and work of Melanie Merola O'Donnell, who focused her career on relieving the suffering caused by mental illness. Students with a history in social work-related volunteer work are asked to submit an essay of how these experiences shaped their lives and mirror the values of Melanie Merola O'Donnell.

The ASA offers a research award to the best unpublished graduate research paper on a project that is relevant to aging and applicable to the practice. Recipients of this award will have the opportunity to present their paper during the annual Aging in America Conference, as well as a complimentary one-year ASA student membership.
Graduate students with a desire to work with, or have a special affinity with, American Indian, Alaska Native, and/or Hispanic/Latino populations are eligible for the Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship. Students should also be members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for consideration.
